  • These features allow you to configure Appian to use common industry protocols to authenticate users instead of using Appian's default authentication.
The SAML settings allow you to use your existing SAML-based SSO solution to configure SSO.
The LDAP settings allow you to identify users from LDAP that should be allowed to use Appian.

All users, regardless of their authentication method, still need to have a user account in Appian.
For this reason LDAP and SAML configs both include "Create users upon login" / "Create new users upon sign in" options respectively to automatically create the Appian users on first login. Because there is often a need to systematically put users into Appian groups before you let them into the system, it's typical that Appian users are created ~manually or imported into Appian in bulk and then provisioned to the appropriate Appian groups before inviting users to sign in.

LDAP Tools is a popular shared component that many admins extend to process logic that automatically adds users to the desired groups.
