Morning all and Happy New Year.
We are using Appian 6.7 and have modified the custom.properties file to amend the global alert setting defaults.
The problem is that despite several server reboots (waiting for all the k.exe process to terminate before re starting) the setting do not always take effect.
In particular there are 2 settings:
server.conf.notifications.process_new_task_me_timing=immediate
server.conf.notifications.process_new_task_others_timing=immediate
Yet when looking at the Edit my Alert Settings, the Process -> New Task Assigned to ME (and New Task Assigned to Me and Others) the rule reads:
By default, send to email with parameters timing = never. (edit / delete)
Any ideas why this is happening, and how to correct it ?
Thanks...

The default setting for these parameters is "immediate" according to the docs so if it is set to "never" was this done by the user manually? The docs also state that if a user has manually changed a setting then it will be kept in preference to any gloabl setting:

Thanks Tim, but the server has never been had the alert settings modified - at one point email were disabled entirely though.
A number of the other alert settings have been changed to never - but not these 2.
The accounts used to look at the defaults are new with no modifications to the default values.

Have you tried running <appian>\\server\\_scripts\\reload-properties.bat
No reason why it would work any different but I have just tested switching some alert settings and running this script and I could see the updates to the user alert settings.....albeit in 7.3

Unfortunate, reloadProperties() was added in 6.7, maybe someone from Appian can confirm if the bat file from later releases is compatible....

Afraid not. I seem to remember seeing somewhere that the ability to change server settings without a restart only came in with 7.1 (might have even been .2)

These instructions have all been followed and all the updated defaults are working - except for 2 which are not being picked up on server restarts despite the custom.properties being correct (the same settings produce the correct results in our test enviromnent, just not in the live one where these 2 alerts have the wrong default)
