I found an older thread (
forum.appian.com/.../e-86282)
from almost 2 years ago where it's stated that using a proxy is not compatible with the Call Web Service node. Is that still the case for 7.7? If this is still true, is it also true for Http Query, the a!http..., and the a!webservice... functions? What about the HTTP File Upload node added in 7.9?

It is still the case. It's something on our backlog. I'll add your interest as a note on the ticket.
For your use case, would a single proxy defined at a system-wide scope using http.proxyHost and http.proxyPort JVM arguments work, or do you need to define a proxy selectively for certain instances of smart services or functions?

A single system-wide proxy would be sufficient for our case. The only caveat is that it requires authentication, which I saw requires an Authenticator in order to work with the JVM arguments. There might be another way of passing the proxy authentication, but I didn't immediately find that.

Send Http request smart service does not support the proxy setting,But you can easily modify or create your own smart service which supports this,The only thing you need to is override 'createHttpClient' method of HttpUtil class to pass proxyHost and proxyPort, and use setProxy Method of HostConfiguration class to set the proxy.
