Are there any references available to the best practices around the use Custom Group Types? Is this still a feature customers still or should use?

Thanks for the links. I think this was the relevant line from the documentation. "Avoid creating custom group types unless there is a strong need/requirement."

@jorgea653, i aggree with you & adding to the above points mention , Only create the groups necessary for task assignment or security.
