Does Appian Support Microservices

I'm interested in integration of my Appian application with microservices.
Do you know if Appian can support microservcies?

Microservices developed in Java can communicate to Appian processes. There should be a contract exposed between Appian and external system with Servlet Plug-in or publish Appian process as a webservice etc. For example if we take an external system like Mule ESB and it has various micoservices developed with Java API then those services can talk to Appian system for further provisioning.
