Send Email Smart Service Performance Issue

Sometime the send Email smart service is taking huge time for sending an email.

Please provide some suggestions for troubleshooting.

What user is waiting for that email? I mean, does that user actually expect an email and waits impatiently for it? Keep in mind that node completion time is not code evaluation time!
