Is there a data type for handling Maps as input/output for custom services? I have a custom service I am writing that talks to a REST service which returns arbitrary meta-data in json. The json fields are user defined and are not necessarily the same for all objects. I need a way to provide that meta-data back to appian that does not require me to update the plugin everytime someone adds a new meta-data field and also would support nested json objects, as well as a way to generate the nested json objects from user input in appian to be sent to the REST service....

Hi Juan, you can check out our API here:
forum.appian.com/.../
and the following documentation to define a custom data type:

In addition to review Patty's suggestion you can also return the JSON as a string and then use the JSON Functions component (available for download here in Appian Forum under the "Shared Components" record (
forum.appian.com/.../all)-
Expression Functions) and its functions to manipulate the data returned.
Another option would be the JSONtoXML plugin (available for download here in Appian Forum under the "Shared Components" record (
forum.appian.com/.../all)-
Expression Functions) if you want to then use that XML and map it to a CDT using torecord()
forum.appian.com/.../Scripting_Functions
or the XML to CDT Conversion plug-in available for download here in Appian Forum under the "Shared Components" record (
forum.appian.com/.../all)-
Expression Functions)
