SSRS Reporting in Appian SQL server

Hello,

I would like to know if there is any possible way to add MS SQL Server Reporting Services to the Appian's SQL server.

Any other possible ways of reporting(adhoc) rather than Appian Reports?

Thanks in advance...

Hi Terry! Can you provide additional details on your Appian installation? Are you using Appian Cloud with the PaaS provided database (MySQL)?

If you are using Appian Cloud and the PaaS provided database, then no, you cannot run SSRS against the Appian Cloud database. There are a few other potential options you can look into as alternative though.

    1. Configure your Appian Cloud environment to utilize an on-premise or separate cloud database outside of Appian's PaaS. You can connect via VPN and have the flexibility to utilize MS SQL Server as your business database. As you will have more control over the database you can configure SSRS as needed for your use case.

    2. Export data from your Appian Cloud environment to a separate database/data warehouse for reporting purposes. Based on the scale of your data and the frequency upon which data would need to be exported there are several potential options including plugins that can assist in exporting data in bulk to a reporting database/data warehouse.

With either of these options you will need to validate that your SSRS reporting needs will not cause performance conflicts against the transactional system/database. Generally speaking it is often better to utilizing more specialized BI tools against a separate data set and allow Appian reporting to handle your real-time transactional reporting.
