I am sending a json service request and storing the response in a process variab

I am sending a json service request and storing the response in a process variable. Although I am able to extract values from the response through jsontodictionary function, the whole response is seen as a junk value ( not in the correct format). The response from SOAP UI comes correctly and we are assuming some encoding issue at Appian end might be causing this.
Is my assumption correct ?
Where exactly can I check if there is any encoding issue at Appian ?
What might be the other reasons for this to happen ?...
