I appended a new column in a report which gets its data using expression editor.

I appended a new column in a report which gets its data using expression editor. the expression uses a custom function to determine the definition but when i save the report (example: returnformtype(tp!id) , the column displays empty (it does not display the result of the calculation in expression).
- i have tested the function in expression rule, it works but it does not work in report.
- my function uses tp!id as an input and returns the form type such as html or sail or jsp.

how can i achieve this? or is there a limitation in reports against custom functions?...
