I noticed that the Base 64 utilities plugin has been removed
Why was it removed and is there an alternative?
I was using it to embed images in the send email smart service

We were told that "...multiple customers were using this plug-in without caution and dumping large amount of text into process variables meaning the memory usage was increasing dramatically since they weren't aware of the implication of doing so.".
I guess support may be able to provide the plug-in if you open a case..?

We require this plugin to convert documents into a byte stream and be able to pass it to a web service. Are there any alternatives?

We have this plugin installed in our DEV instance, but support would not let us install it in our TEST environment which has thrown us. Trying to find alternatives now.

After talking with support - only alternative is to maintain a fork of the plugin yourself.

Then again - I'm wondering what the chances of a fork of the Base64 plugin being approved for cloud use when the original one got removed...

I reverted to hosting the images online and then just referencing the URL.

I see this post being linked to a reasonable amount... To put people's mind at rest, you can build your own version of this plug in but you need to make sure you pass in a documentID and not pass the base64 string out. (Or when retrieving base64 you must write the doc down to Appian and just pass out the he string).
