I have a couple of process models which utilizes 'Receive/Send File Over SFTP' smart service. I was wondering if there is a best way to handle exceptions when the smart service fails to connect or throws an exception?

Unfortunately, there's really not a lot you can do if the smart service errors out. If possible try to encapsulate the smart service in a asynchronous sub-process, which would allow the process flow to continue even on error. When it fails to connect, you can try looping over it a couple of times to see if it can get a connection.

We've used a timer node set to be just a little longer than the transfer should take to initiate an exception flow.
