I have configured the LDAP tools plug-in and applicaton. When i test the filter it return the correct list of users as per the Active Directory Group. However, when i run a sync, only some of these users stay active in Appian and many of them are deactivated. Has someone else experienced this?

The plug-in documentation forum.appian.com/.../o states:

"The user profile synchronization can be configured to target two Organizational Units (OUs) : one for account creation and updates, and a second (optional) for
deactivation. Both OUs may be filtered using standard LDAP filters to target a subset of accounts."

This means the behavior you're seeing indicates the users being deactivated fall into the filter set in the input of the smart service called "Synch User Deactivated Filter"
