From my perspective, tasks assigned to users are a crucial part of a business process and can/should not be just "closed". I recommend to reassign these tasks to someone else.
Adding to what Stefan said if the tasks are assigned to the group and not the user, you can leave it as is and other people from the same group can complete them. But if there are any accepted tasks or any tasks directly assigned to the user, then those tasks need to be reassigned to someone having the same set of rights in the application.
I agree with reassigning to a new business user and they can complete the tasks per process design.
Otherwise, if you are manually cancelling tasks, this will leave orphaned processes both on your server and likely in business reporting.
I vehemently avoid moving/cancelling processes on the back end, barring any temporary system bugs which physically prevent the business from proceeding.
Check this link it has a technical details about how to do, community.appian.com/.../handling-assigned-task-for-deactivated-users1.Build a task report that fetches the details of tasks when you pass the a user or list of users as context (keep the necessary columns in the report for data - Task Id, Context User, Process Instance Id, Date & Time of Assignment/Acceptance, etc.)2. Build a process model to re-assign/Cancel Process the list of tasks you have identified, to the desired active users using either of the Shared Components - Reassign With Privileges & Task Smart Services Plug-in, based on your need.
