Hi,
I am trying to generate a pdf document from the 'PDF Doc from Template' smart service. In the setup tab of the smart service, when I am providing the name of the pdf template which needs to be scanned, it is not able to detect the place holders.
my pdf template will be scanned for substitution keys starting with “###” and ending with “###”.
However, it is not able to scan it.
Any reasons why?
Thanks...

Can you check if the form is saved as a static pdf.
What happens is that if you are using Adobe Livecycle Designer to design the PDF Form, it allows you to save the form in two formats
1) Dynamic XML Form
2) Static PDF Form
Only if it is saved as a Static PDF Form the placeholders will appear in the smart service set up

This SM does not work with keys "###key###" but using the PDF feature form field. The problem for me was that the form field in the PDF was still read/write afterwards.

@shelzle : Create pdf Template using
http://www.pdfescape.com/open/
site, while creating pdf template right click on form field ,select object properties and make form field read only. this works for me.

Do you want to convert DOC(X) -> PDF or PDF->PDF. For DOC I developed a plugin using Java libraries from Aspose.

PDFs should not have ### for placeholders
PDF templates should be created as PDF Forms
They should have form fields in them. These form fields will be scanned

@shelzle: I want to convert DOC(X) to PDF. I found one smart service on shared component 'Any Doc to PDF', but it is not cloud compatible. Can you please let me know if there is any way I can do so without using PDF Forms?

@srinivasank: I tried to create pdf form template using http://www.pdfescape.com/open/ site, and using the same as a template in pdf doc template service, However, I am facing an issue in the same. One of my field values should come either in bullet format or in separate lines. There is a option of 'listbox' there, but I need to specify the options values there itself. However in my case, options are dyanamic, depending on the user selection in form in process model.
How can I render the user selected values in separate lines or bullet format in generated pdf doc using this pdf form page as template?

Any Doc to PDF uses OpenOffice as backend. Conversion results are rather bad. PDF forms do not help you in converting DOC to PDF. As I said, I wrote a custom plugin to do that. You can do the same but have to go through a review process at Appian to deploy it on the cloud.
