I would like to suggest to review the function once, as I haven't used the function or plugin till date(the inputs to the function are quiet simple) and further I am responding to your question by inspecting the code of the 'Group Functions' plugin.

This share component also has various functions related to groups that might helpful for you.

Until and unless I miss some thing in the 'People Functions' plugin, there isn't a direct function in it that retrieves all the groups present in the environment.
