If we use inline conf.content.download.inline to display a PDF on a form that a user can make changes to, is there any way - perhaps writing a custom plugin smart service - that we could save the updated PDF into Appian content without forcing the user to save it and re-upload it in a subsequent task?...

Are there no options? I understand this won't be possible completely out of the box. Digital signatures are an important requirement for us. We would be willing to investigate writing custom plugins or using javascript.
