KB-1885 Tomcat start-appserver script does not start Tomcat on Windows environments

Symptoms
The Appian engines, data server and search server start successfully, but when running the start-appserver.bat script, Tomcat does not start and tomcat-stdOut.log file is not generated.
Tomcat will display no running instances when attempting to run stop-appserver.bat.
Cause
This issue has been addressed via AN-126614 in Appian 19.1 Hotfix Package A.
Action
Apply the latest hotfix to your Appian installation or upgrade to the latest version of Appian.
Workaround
- Run
<APPIAN_HOME>\tomcat\apache-tomcat\bin\stop-appserver.bat. - Follow the directions in this documentation to set the JAVA_HOME:
<APPIAN_HOME>\java. - Run
<APPIAN_HOME>\tomcat\apache-tomcat\bin\start-appserver.bat. - Run
<APPIAN_HOME>\tomcat\apache-tomcat\bin\startup.bat. - Tomcat will start, but there will not be an auto-generated tomcat-stdOut.log file.
Affected Versions
This article applies to Appian 19.1 using Windows as the operating system.
