While starting Appian, JBoss fails to start due to the following error in the server.log file located in <JBOSS_HOME>/standalone/logs:
<JBOSS_HOME>/standalone/logs
ERROR [org.jboss.as.server] (Controller Boot Thread) JBAS015956: Caught exception during boot: org.jboss.as.controller.persistence.ConfigurationPersistenceException: JBAS014676: Failed to parse configuration...Caused by: javax.xml.stream.XMLStreamException: ParseError at [row,col]:[3,1] Message: Unexpected element '{urn:jboss:domain:1.8}server'
This issue is caused by a mismatch between the standalone.xml file and the version of JBoss in use. This can occur when using an older version of JBoss not supported by Appian. Review the System Requirements documentation to see what version of JBoss is supported for the version of Appian that is running.
Note: Every version of Appian has its own version of the documentation, and that version number is displayed on every page at the top of the right-hand panel. Click on the number to quickly navigate to the same page in another version of the documentation.
Download the supported version of JBoss and start Appian again.
This article applies to Appian 18.2 and earlier.
