Hello,
We have a case in which two users were created with the usernames "p687" and "P687".
I see 2 user profiles within Appian, but how does Appian handle these user profiles? Are they separate entities?
Should i be able to login with both?
If i search for a user's profile using Appian's JAVA API, is the username case sensitive?

As far as the user name is considered - documentation says that "It must not match an existing username regardless of case. For example, if john.doe already exists, you cannot enter JOHN.doe" (Reference: 'Creating a New User' section under
forum.appian.com/.../User_Management.html
. Hope it might be of some help to you.

@sikhivahans Thank you for your input. I just went through that Documentation. Since this is quite clear and straight forward, my questions is what should we now regarding the second user that was created? I know that user profiles can not be deleted from Appian. Would deactivating the second user profile be enough? Should i open a support case for this issue of ours?

@thanosm Out of interest, may I know on which version you are and are you able to create or see two users with "p687" and "P687" (I am bit surprised if Appian alowed the creation and not aware of the scenarios that allows the creation) ?
If you would like to proceed with deactivating a user, please take care of the following scenarios(There could be some more, but these will be the major areas affected as per my experience):
>> When a user is deactivated, any running processes that were started by that user will pause by exception. This will not happen immediately, but is guaranteed to happen no later than the next time the application server is restarted. Additionally, process models that are configured to run as their designer will fail to run if the designer user becomes deactivated. (Reference: https://forum.appian.com/suite/help/7.9/User_Management.html#Deactivating_Users, https://forum.appian.com/suite/help/7.9/Appian_Object_Concepts.html)
>> Tasks assigned to a user remain assigned to that user even after the user is deactivated. If the user is reactivated, the user will continue to see the task. (Reference: 'Best Practice' at https://forum.appian.com/suite/help/7.9/Assignment_Tab.html')

@sikhivahans We are currently on Appian 7.6. However, since you mentioned that you are a bit surprised if Appian allowed the creation of a second user profile, i had at the creation dates of the two profiles. If the creation date on the User Profile is correct then it's as follows:
p687 -> Created on November 8th, 2012
P687 -> Created on February 21st, 2013
On February of 2013, we were running on Appian 6.0.1.

@thanosm Also the point 'It must not match an existing username regardless of case. For example, if john.doe already exists, you cannot enter JOHN.doe' has been added from 7.4. Until and unless I am not missing some thing, this hasn't been specified in 7.3 and versions prior to 7.3.
