I don't see any way live chat functionality in Appian matching with other open source chat functionality. I can only recommend to create external chat system and have it as an external link in Appian.

Appian does not support Live chat functionality out-of-the-box. Thanks!

As far as for an out-of-the-box feature, Appian doesn't support this type of functionality. You can use other ways of communication such send email or send alert.

@Sushil, we know that Chat is not a Out-of-the-box feature in Appian, but I think we can achieve this in Appian, by creating a form having a Paragraph Field, user/group picker and a Button, along with a Grid, on each click of Button, store the data into DB instantly and retrieve the same for each submit inside with() under Grid and show the grid to only those whom we have added through Picker, now when we talk about Chat, then we need to think about, whether you are talking about Group Chat or Personal Chat.
Need to do some R&D, but i believe we can achieve this in Appian

You can u targeted message and comment on the targeted message. It will not be a full-fledged live chat. But no other user can see what's in there in chat (except system administrator)

The problem is that you will not instantly see when someone types a message. Because SAIL is built to do work only on user interaction. aloks176's idea is simple to implement, but will still be no live chat.

Agreed - we've seen aloks176 idea in practice, but you must click a button to refresh other chats on the thread. When you post, you'll see the updated chats from others, but you'd need to click a "Refresh" button or some other user action to pull any new messages from others. Thus, there's not "Live" chat ability without acting on something like stefanh791 explained

stefanh791 is absolutely right. To achieve 'live chat' functionality, Appian needs to support Push functionality in SAIL. We have raised this enhancement request, so hopefully we will see that feature in the future

Yes I agree with stefanh, and that's the reason why I too have mention that we need to do some R&D to check for some possibility, because it's not a out of the box provided by Appian. So let's have some R&D on this as well let's expect Appian to release such type of features in 17.2 or upcoming version
