Capture Image

Overview

Function: captureImageField()

The Capture Image component can be used on the Appian Applications as a Web Camera that can capture the image and crop it as needed and preview the cropped image before we save it as a document.

Note: We can use the Vuram Rich Text Editor connected system to save the image captured in the component into the Appian as a document.

Key Features & Functionality

Capability for employees to open a webcam connected to their laptop from the Appian application to take a picture of a customer. Customer photos will be then saved in the Appian folder.

  • Hi Matthew,

Did you find a solution to this? Appian's Image and Video capture plugin supports a higher resolution but doesn't support image crop.

    Regards,
    Cadell

  • Hi   ,

Right now both of your queries are not possible in the available version of the plugin.
We will add this requirement to our backlog and analyse the possibilities for the development.

    Thanks for reaching us!

  • Hi Vignesh,

We are aiming to use a USB connected 4K webcam to capture still images at maximum resolution, then upload and save them to the Appian application server for use later on in our application. Ideally we would like to be able to capture still images at the native resolution of the USB connected webcam, currently this is 4K but if higher definition devices become available we would want to capture images at the connected devices maximum resolution.

    Kind regards,

    Matthew

  • Hi  ,

    Thanks for reaching out!

For both of your questions related to resolution and camera switching is the limitation of the capture image component. We will add this into our backlog and consider releasing a updated version.

Can you please ellobrate your use case so that we can analyse the possibilities and enhance based on that?

    Regards,
    Vignesh E

  • Hi all, is it possible to add the switch-cam option to desktop devices also please? We have noticed that the system now defaults to the internal laptop camera and we have no means to change to a secondary external camera unless we force the browser (Edge) into simulating mobile mode.

  • Hi all, we've successfully set up the Capture Image plug-in along with the Advanced Rich Text Editor Connected System (Vuram) plug-in but we are noticing photos are binned down to 533 x 400 pixels.

We've tested this with a 4K USB connected web cam, a 720p internal laptop web cam and a 13MP mobile device camera

The 13MP camera was part of an Android mobile device access through the web application (not the Appian Mobile App) and this binned down to 300 x 400 pixels

Do you know if this is a limitation of the Capture Image app or is there a way to increase the resolution?

  • v1.0.1 Release Notes
    • Added a switch-cam option for mobile phones

  • Hi  ,

The changes with the switch camera option for mobile is done and latest version will be availble in the app market very soon.

    Regards,
    Vignesh E

  • Next question .... Now i have the cam working. If i use this with the Appian Mobile client, it will use the forward facing camera. Is there any ability to switch camera's ?

  • Hi ,

Could you please check whether you have given a valid folder UUID without any extra spaces in the connected system?

    Thanks,
    Vignesh E
