KB-2405 Agent Chat Field Does Not Display Streaming Responses or Execute outputsSaveInto When Corporate Proxy or VPN Blocks Network Traffic

Symptoms

  1. The a!agentChatField() component displays a perpetual "thinking" animation with no updates after sending a request to the agent.
  2. The agent successfully completes execution as verified in the Monitor tab, but the front-end UI component never reflects the completion.
  3. The outputsSaveInto parameter does not execute, and no data is returned to local variables in the UI.
  4. Debug mode shows no tool calls or information returned to the calling agentChat component.
  5. This behavior occurs consistently across all locations, for example: start forms, static site interfaces, designer preview, and blank unsaved interfaces.

Cause

The issue is caused by a corporate network proxy or VPN blocking the response traffic from Appian's agent streaming endpoints. The proxy intercepts or blocks the network traffic required for the a!agentChatField() component to receive streaming responses from the agent execution backend.

Action

Configure your corporate network proxy or VPN to allowlist the Appian agent streaming endpoints required for the a!agentChatField() component to function correctly. To identify the endpoints being blocked, collect a browser network capture and check for any blocked or missing responses.

Contact your network security team to identify and remove any proxy rules blocking traffic to Appian Cloud endpoints used for agent chat responses.

Workaround

If possible, access your Appian site from a different network or device while your network/security teams investigate the traffic blocks. Test agent chat functionality from a device or network connection that bypasses the corporate proxy or VPN (e.g., personal device on a separate network) to verify that the agent chat field operates correctly outside the restricted network environment.

Affected Versions

This article applies to Appian 26.6 and later.
