Group Function Access Problem

Hi 

I am using the group function to get the attributes related to the group 

group(<groupId>, <property>)

I am using this in an interface used on my site. 

But what I have come to notice is when logging into my site as a basic user, there seems to be an issue where in the user has insufficient privileges for group() function 

Can anyone please help me in this ?
