KB-1224 "JBAS018733: Failed to process phase FIRST_MODULE_USE of deployment "suite.ear"" error returned during JBoss startup

Symptoms

During startup JBoss 6.4.9 fails to load the Appian class module and displays the following error(s) in the server.log:

ERROR [org.jboss.msc.service.fail] (MSC service thread 1-2) MSC000001: Failed to start service jboss.deployment.unit."suite.ear".FIRST_MODULE_USE: org.jboss.msc.service.StartException in service jboss.deployment.unit."suite.ear".FIRST_MODULE_USE: JBAS018733: Failed to process phase FIRST_MODULE_USE of deployment "suite.ear"

Cause

This is a known issue in JBoss EAP 6.4.9.

In the JBoss 6.4.9 Cumulative Patch released by Red Hat, there are missing references to dependencies that result in a failure to load the javax.persistence.api and a subsequent error in casting to the class org.hibernate.ejb.HibernatePersistence when deploying the associated persistence provider.
