Using Claude to Assist Appian Developers in Application Development

Hi Team,

I’d like to understand whether there is a way to use Claude AI to assist Appian developers during the development process.

To clarify, I'm not referring to Appian Composer or end-user AI capabilities. I'm specifically interested in using Claude as a development assistant for tasks such as generating expressions, troubleshooting, reviewing designs, suggesting best practices, and supporting technical documentation.

Is this currently possible within the Appian ecosystem, and are there any recommended integration approaches or considerations?

Thank you.

Appian now have Dev Agents to create design objects, Also, some of the Claude models are available in Appian AI services (admin console) if you’ve relevant Appian license.

Thanks! I see we have Claude models enabled in our AI services- but Dev Agent is not coming up in our build view- is there something else we need to enable?

If you are on cloud and have relevant license then you can create support case in Appian support forum to activate DevAgent.

Hi @sarahv035887 ,

Yes as per the newer updates, Appian can be now exposed using MCP Servers, You can have the Appmarket Plugin installed and connect with Claude/Any LLMs.

Usecases I found - Connecting Appian can help you find bottlenecks, JIRA compatibility, We can use DevMCP to get all the insights about our Appian Applications.

My Project manager uses Claude - Connects to Appian & JIRA, Reviews Stories, when we put the application package link related to the story in comments, It will analyze the AC, get into the package, Take some test data, Start validating the changes, It actually understands the whole context and helps us to solve bottlenecks, It will also add few edge cases and gives accurate changes needed(Note: LLMs are not much trained with SAIL & Appian related stuff, but still useful)

The AI Dev Agent chat (not the initial Composer) leverages Claude models if set up.  It is really useful.  You could set up MCP server and generate items from Claude Code as demoed at Appian World this year (haven’t done this myself as we have restrictions on the tools we use).
