Hello… new to Appian and I’m working my way through the Developer path. However, it seems that the Appian Designer Community Edition performance is consisently slow for me over the last couple weeks.

Is this normal for everyone? And if so is that indicitive of the real-world performance of the Designer IDE.

It is quite slow indeed. But this is a shared instance for many developers. Individual instances should be much faster.

Appian is very chatty as all evaluation is done on the server side. So you should expect not the same level of lightning fast snappiness as with full client side apps. But it is far away from any kind of feeling slow.

I certainly wasn’t expecting local IDE speed, but (and I’m new to this) the community edition web IDE which is ALL I have experience with, is easily taking a good 10secs to open record types or switching to the data model tab etc. So from what you’re saying a licensed environment should be much snappier? If so, that is encouraging. The CE site is almost unbearably slow and makes getting through the training a real hassle unfortunately.

This level of slowness is not consistent for me on Community edition! Intermittently it can be slow but overall its manageable so as to continue learning. So if you are consistently facing this slowness better to inform Appian team at CommunityEdition@appian.com and have them check on their end.

Similar experience, I’m afraid. I wish I could see some kind of progress/status bar beyond the top loading bar, especially when using generate objects or AI copilot in designer > plan.
