Appian Environments

Hi, I am a new Appian employee and I just wanted to understand how many environments do we usually have in Appian where to deploy our applications? What are their most important features? Are there some best practices to follow in using them?

I know there are the development one and quality (or testing) one for building and testing the applications and the production one where the applications run, but is there a link to a more specific documentation of the differences between them? I couldn't find it.
