Editing access to applications in record types

I am working on step-b y-step #5 ( "Exercise 5: Design Record Types") and I am stuck on the configuring vehicle record events steps. Once I go to the Events page, I am unable to click GENERATE EVENT RECORD TYPES because I keep receiving a pop-up stating, "you must have edit access to at least one of the applications this record type is in to generate event record types." How do I manage and edit my access so that I am able to proceed with this exercise.
