How do I show a complete list of available selections without having to type something first?

I have a field (well all of them really - I want this to be the default behaviour) where I want to show a list down of all available selections for a text field (i.e dropdown) but still have the ability for the user to type data into the field in order to select from the available options. 

Currently, once I put my cursor into the field, I have to start typing something into the text field for the list to appear. 

I want the list to appear immediately once the field is on focus without having to wait for the user to start data entering information. 

Is this possible?

    There is the option to have search on dropdown fields via the searchDisplay option.

    You can use a dropdownField as Mathieu mentioned. That will help you with all the properties you mentioned but if you want the user to input a some text of his interest, like if an option is not available still a user can create a new option, then you can use custom picker.

    While this is not exactly supported, I help the user to know what to do by defining a placeholder text that includes the magnifier glass unicode symbol. something like:

    "[emoticon:3c913c0db7eb4f9face51746da287257] Search ..."

    Hello kevinf0003, You can create a a!pickerCustom field so the user can search what they want, but this will not display the list if the user have no idea of the relevant options. I think only a dropdown field with searchDisplay on will be the solution.

    AFAIK this is not how dropdown fields work pretty much anywhere, if you're talking about a user focusing the field via TAB keypress versus via Mouse click.  And if you're talking about mouse click, then the behavior you describe as wanting is what already happens.  This really boils down to a User Training issue.
