sending out emails to subscribers need a third party integration?

Dear all, in the Online course I have the following quesiton: Which of the following use cases likely requires third party integrations? and one of the answer is "You want to automate a business process, such as sending out emails to subscribers."

Taking into account online course and also this link (https://docs.appian.com/suite/help/25.3/email-in-appian.html), I understood that an integration is needed to send email in Appian. Instead in the Appian analyst practice exam the answer "You want to automate a business process, such as sending out emails to subscribers." is not correct.

Can you please tell me if sending out emails required or not third party integration? Thanks a lot.

    The documentation talks about integrations for emails only for specific use cases such as

    1. Appian needs to receive lots of emails from external systems 

    2. Factors like volume of emails to be send out from Appian is high, attachments to be sent are large or more in quantity then Appian can handle or recipients are in hight count 

    Most cases, as well as, as per the question in practice exam, email needs to be sent out to subscribers so send email smart service will suffice. We don’t need any integration. If the question had details like huge sized attachments are to be sent recurrently to lots of recipients then integration could be the consideration. But fewer cases/applications need integrations for emails hence no integration in the correct answer for the given question

      No, sending emails does not require third-party integration.
      Appian has a built-in Send E-Mail Smart Service that handles basic email sending without any third-party integration.
      Third-party integration is only needed for advanced scenarios (like Outlook integration via Microsoft Graph API or custom email services).
      The confusion between the course and exam likely comes from different contexts - basic email (no integration) vs. advanced email features (integration needed).​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

      Sending emails from a process is an age-old and out-of-box-supported standard functionality of Appian.  The link mentions "large volume of emails" which is a specific, usually separate, use case.
