Store Excel data in Process variables.

A person uploaded a excel file which contains name, group e.t.c of him/her. 
I need to save the details in the process variables. 

How can I retrive the data of excel into the process variables?

You can use the Excel tools plugin to query the data from the document and then store it in the Map Data type. 
Can you please explain your use case a bit so I can suggest a better approach?

    The moment person uploads the excel file, he becomes the user and gets added in the respective group.

    isn't he/she already a user as they were able to upload the file? I am not super clear. 
    And about being added in the groups, are these group mappings defined in excel?
