    Both approaches work well—it really depends on what you're trying to communicate. I usually use horizontal swim lanes when comparing different roles or teams across a process, while vertical swim lanes work better when the focus is on a step-by-step workflow or timeline. Choosing the right layout can make a complex diagram much easier to follow, just like choosing the right snorkel mask makes exploring underwater more comfortable.
