Question

Transpose Excel Data

Hello everyone,

I have a client requirement where the data in an excel report generated through Appian Cloud needs to be transposed. The excel report has 5 sheets and the number of rows in each sheet are not fixed. The below suggestions were rejected by the customer.

  • Using RPA copy paste (transpose) in Excel Operations
  • Python script being called by RPA
  • Exposing Python script as web service to call as Integration from Appian Cloud

Is there any other option by which I can achieve this requirement in Appian ?

Regards,

Deepak

can you provide a bit more specific detail as to what we would hope to see accomplished when you say “needs to be transposed”?  Do you just mean flipping the data on every sheet?

You are correct, Mike. The requirement is to just flip data on every sheet. The below image represents the requirement.

Thanks for clarifying - i’m not personally aware of any OOB solutions, outside of ingesting the data from every sheet and going through the laborious process of transposing the data manually and then potentially rebuilding the document manually by means of plugin-based excel generation utilities (export json to excel comes to mind); far easier might be to look into external integrations you could potentially pass the file out to, perform the transform, and receive the result back - if such things exist.  If you know anyone versed in creating custom plug-ins, that’s another potential avenue, but I don’t have much specific advice to offer on that front.

Port whatever logic you have in your python script into Appian using the Excel tools plugin. Perhaps Claude could help speed things up.
