Appian Automation Training: RPA Tutorial: Parse Excel Files issue

I am working through the "RPA Tutorial: Parse Excel Files" and I can't get the Add Excel data to database function to work.  I believe the issue stems from the "ExcelDocumentID" variable is null.  I can't find anywhere in the training where the Document ID gets passed to the variable.  Has anyone else completed this training?  Am I missing something?
