Records

I have a process variable of type RecordType in processes. Now I want to read the data in an expression rule. The output now returns fields with the names c1, c2, c3, c4, ... My data from RecordType is in c4. Can I filter the data directly with a!queryProcessAnalytics via a!query? For example, only the data records that were created in a specific country? Expression Rule: a!queryProcessAnalytics(    report: cons!PGN_REPORT,    contextProcessModels: cons!PGN_PROCESS_MODEL,    query: a!query(        filter: a!queryFilter(field: "c4"[country], operator: "=", value: "UK"),        pagingInfo: a!pagingInfo(startIndex: 1, batchSize: - 1)    )) In my example, I realize that “c4”[country] does not work, but what do I need to write for this?

Is there any way to remove or change the text that comes from where the arrow is pointing to? Right now, it's displaying the username of the person who created the record that this event history is built off of,  which isn't accurate in context. Can it be removed so text just says "mentioned you in a conversation" or at least changed so it doesn't display the createdby, but the record ID?

Hi, I have created one custom record field where it calculated sum of all the event points present in the table. But I'm trying to display this data in the grid based on the date range selection so basically if that date range has only one row with event point = 10, it should display only row with value 10 but it is displaying the sum of all 100 rows in a single row. How to handle single row data calculation in appian records?

I have a question about the performance of data processing. I have a query a list from record type A, and now I want to filter some data from the data I queried. I have two ways to do that, one is use query record type and add a filter to get the data I want, another is I use logic function to get the data from the list I queried.  My question is, is there a big performance difference between these two solutions? If yes which way is preferred. If no how about CDT.  Because when I code in Java, our strategy is better to query the database only once. But I'm not sure is this suit for Appian. But I think records type has cache like Redis, so even query the record type too much times, it will not cause performance problems. But I'm not sure if my thought is right?

I’ve set up a date search in my Appian interface backed by a Cloud DB table. When users select a date, it updates a rule input, which is then used to filter records. The filtering works well and shows only the data for that selected date.query: a!query( filter: if( isnull(ri!onInputChange), null, a!queryFilter( field: "createdOnDate", operator: "=", value: ri!onInputChange ) ) But, when I am adding the interface as a page to the Site, I am getting the error below:Error Evaluating UI Expression Expression evaluation error [evaluation ID = 296a3:3b232] in rule <table_Name> : Cannot apply operator [EQUALS] to field [createdOnDate] when comparing to value [TypedValue[it=49,v=<null>]].

Hi How do you use Sync Records Smart Service to fully sync a record type that was just modified by a back end stored procedure My case is new data comes in daily in CSV files - which gets uploaded into a set of temporary tables After this a stored procedure inserts them into the main tables that are connected with the record types. As of now we are syncing these record type manually from the web page I though this smart service would have an option to do a full sync, but it needs the IDs of the record types to sync - well these are unknown since they were just inserted by the stored procedure in DB so not available yet. Do I need to come up with another data base query to retrieve the new ID - form the database?

If multiple applications are hosted on the same Appian platform, and I want to create a separate schema in the Appian Cloud database for each application's tables, how should I reference a specific table within a specific schema when creating a Data Store in Appian? I initially tried querying using schema_name.table_name, but it didn’t work as expected. However, when I ran SHOW TABLES FROM <schema_name>, I was able to see the tables listed under that schema, which confirms that the schema and its tables are accessible.

Hi, I'm attempting to upload a CSV file to SQL server database on Appian V23.2 The database table has been an existing one for the upload process which was originally an Excel document which got converted to CSV within the process model.  We're in the middle of changing this to do straight upload of CSV file. Issue we are having is that the CSV column names are produced from a third party site (Salesforce) and cannot easily rename the column names to match the database table names. sample CSV Column names: Opportunity ID# Account Name: Account Name Stage Opportunity Owner: Full Name sample database table names OPPORTUNITY_ID | ACCOUNT_NAME | STAGE | OPPORTUNITY_OWNER  Using the "import CSV to Database" smart service, it seems that both have to match if the file is headered.  No ability to have different csv column names to that on the database, even if the number of columns match.   Changed to java.lang.

I have a complex database view that should be converted to an Appian Data Fabric (synced records) model for performance reasons.  I am able to recreate all functionality from the database view with the exception of the string_agg() function. It looks like the only way to access fields from one-to-many relationship record is in the list view/display layer. I need the data to be concatenated and available in the data model (i.e., custom record field) so that this column can be used upstream in a parent related record type.  Is there any way to achieve this functionality in data fabrics?

Hi All, I have a list of task categories and group names who should work on each task. Now I used to create appian groups & constants for each group names, so that I can assign a task based on task category. But I want a dynamic way where even when the admin adds more task category and relevant group names, in future, I could do the task assignment and should send email. Is there any workaround for this?

Hi Team, I am trying the new feature in record type, creating reusable interface for a record field. https://docs.appian.com/suite/help/25.2/reference-records.html#reference-record-field-interfaces i need to do duplicate validation for the fields, created by using re-usable interfaces for a record field. Below is the interface definition of the created interface automatically by Appian, for the record field. a!textField( label: 'recordType!{b1ecf478-0b29-4be8-a0f1-edc36a6d606a}SG IPL Match.fields.{4b2ebeae-9196-4a13-8d48-44abf5b765ae}username.properties.{displayName}displayName', labelPosition: "ABOVE", showWhen: fn!true(), value: ri!record['recordType!{b1ecf478-0b29-4be8-a0f1-edc36a6d606a}SG IPL Match.fields.{4b2ebeae-9196-4a13-8d48-44abf5b765ae}username'], saveInto: ri!record['recordType!{b1ecf478-0b29-4be8-a0f1-edc36a6d606a}SG IPL Match.fields.{4b2ebeae-9196-4a13-8d48-44abf5b765ae}username'], align: "LEFT" ) Now how to validate if username provided by user is not a dupl

Hi Everyone,I'm trying to delete a record type object in my appian application but I'm unable to do so. When I try to delete the below error pops up. Has anyone faced this issue and how to resolve this. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a good resource (docs, videos, or examples) that explains record actions and record views in Appian — especially how they work behind the scenes. I want to understand how visibility, context, and navigation are handled under the hood. Here’s my current scenario: I have a table with two columns: Policy Number and Policy Form Number. It’s a 1-to-many relationship — one policy can have multiple policy forms. I’m able to display all the policy form numbers correctly in a grid. However, I’m struggling to associate each policy form with its corresponding document link. The goal is to have each link open the correct document in Tempo or a Site page. Right now, only the first document link is opening, no matter which policyForm value I have clicked. I suspect it has something to do with how I’m setting up the record link or passing the identifier, but I’m not sure. Would really appreciate: Any resources that e

I have a record that when I the value gets updated to NULL the item gets ignore and it does not get updated on the Database

I'm encountering an issue when trying to access a cloud database URL from Appian. The full URL I'm using is: dev.abc.us-east-2.123.aws/.../index.php However, when I copy and paste this into a new browser tab, the URL gets truncated and only loads as: dev.abc.us-east-2.123.aws/.../index.php Interestingly, I’m not facing this issue with another table from the same schema—its URL works as expected. Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be related to how Appian encodes or renders the link? Any suggestions on how to preserve the full query string when opening the link? Thanks in advance!

As you can see I am not able to see data type from the list I wanted to create a constant of type Data Store Entity.

Hi everyone, I’m working on my first Appian build and ran into an issue I haven’t been able to resolve. My save logic seems to save correctly to ri!record, but I’m getting an error related to the record type relationships. Could not display interface. Please check definition and inputs. Interface Definition: Expression evaluation error: xxxx must be indexed by its corresponding record type fields or relationships I suspect the issue is tied to how my record type relationships are configured, but I haven’t been able to figure it out. Has anyone encountered similar issues with saving data to a record type and relationship errors? I’d really appreciate any guidance on reviewing or troubleshooting the save logic and relationships. Thanks in advance!

i have a store procedure where it has 13 different columns retrieved from 20 different tables i need to get user a link on single click to export data to Excel , and also if possible matched data should  be bold in the excel

HI all  I have a record for sum insured values let's say he below: id: Primary Key (QuoteID) riskType1SumInsured: Aggregate field of all RiskType1 sum insureds riskType2SumInsured: Aggregate field of all RiskType2 sum insureds riskType3SumInsured: Aggregate field of all RiskType3 sum insureds totalSumInsured: a!customFieldSum(riskType1SumInsured, riskType2SumInsured,riskType3SumInsured )  When all the risk type 1,2 and 3 sum insured values have a value (Not Null) the totalSumInsured works correctly, however as soon as one or many of the risk type 1,2 and 3 sum insured values are null, the totalSumInsured simply returns a null. I have tried wrapping the risk type 1,2 and 3 sum insured values in the a!customFieldSum(), with a!defaultValue() as well is a!isnullOrEmpty(), but no change in behaviour. Is there something i am missing?

Hi All, I am trying to quey the view which has 20000 rows. when i apply filter to one of the calculated column which has 0 rows present, queryentity still throws below error.  Expression evaluation error at function a!queryEntity: An error occurred while retrieving the data. Details: Unexpected error executing query (type: [ELMRISKREDUCTIONLANDINGPAGEVWDT16641], query: [queryentity expression], order by: [[Sort[eucInventoryId asc]]], filters:[(currentReductionStage in TypedValue[it=103,v={Process Re-engineering/Non GFT/ITeSS,}])]) We tried optimizing the view as well, but no luck. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

I am getting above error, I have a doubt for now I am using record data function to get the data and using it as a source for grid component.  i tried changing source to result to queryrecordtype  instead of recorddata also . so as this message suggest  Do I need to directly reference the recordtype in the data field of grid component?

I've been having headaches with dates in Appian and I think it has to do with the way appian handles timezones.  Unless I'm mistaken, appian is supposed to record dates in GMT then then later read them in whatever local time zone is appropriate. What I'm finding is that it records in the local time zone, then later reads it as though it were GMT and adjusts to the local time zone, resulting in incorrect dates.  The more frustrating thing about this is how I access/display the date affects what gets shown.  For example if I use a date picker, appian records the date as 4 hours earlier. Thus 8/8/2025 will be recorded in the db as 8/7/2025 8:00 pm EDT If I display the date in a text field, I'll get 8/7/2025 8:00 pm EDT, but if I put it through any kind of function such as text() to format what it looks like it'll come out as 8/8/2025.  What's worse is I imported a csv of a bunch of legacy data and the dates were all converted to date/time a

I have interface displaying record data in grid format. When the user clicks Export to PDF, the currently filtered results (or all records if no filter is applied) should be downloaded in PDF format.

We are seeing a strange issue in which write to record is not working properly. If we check the process variable value, it is successfully updated, but when we look at the database, the latest data is not being updated, no expression error is generated, and this is an intermittent issue. As per this thread we updated to latest version https://community.appian.com/discussions/f/data/39426/data-fabric---write-to-child-records-via-relationship, still we see same issue. Anyone knows the reason?
