Over the pass few years much has changed for data structures within Appian, specifically with record types and custom data types (CDT). There does not seem to be any official documentation on how to convert an application designed using CDTs to one using records. While CDTs have not been entirely fazed out but rather relegated to support with plugins and smart services, it is often more performant and (based on Appian documentation) preferred to build using record types.  My questions are: For larger "legacy" systems is there a significant benefit to converting the existing CDTs used in process models, interfaces, rules, etc. to record types? Is there a fast and efficient way of converting these types from CDT to Record.

The user_management.csv is missing in our distributed environments. I cannot locate it on any server (app, engine, search). In standalone environments, the log file exists. I compared <APPIAN_HOME>/deployment/web.war/WEB-INF/resources/appian_log4j.properties and <APPIAN_HOME>/server/_conf/logging/log.properties and there were no discrepancies regarding this log file. Has anyone else had this issue? 

We have a process responsible for sending emails to the client company from two different domain email addresses. I'm utilizing a custom sender, and replies are also directed to this from address. However, in the mail properties, the 'mailed_by' field still displays the Cloud Environment URL and the from as well it is showing Via cloud Url. Is there any workaround for this issue? Ideally, the receiver should only see the 'From' address in all instances.  

Hi all,We have a deployment account in QA having system admin access. For some nodes, we are using lane assignment as "Run as whoever designed the process model". In one of the nodes, we are retrieving data from a record but due to some reason, data is not being retrieved(that PV is empty). Same code is working in dev but not in test. The only difference is In dev, it runs with my name and in QA, it runs with the deployment account name. Even though its a system admin account, should it be added to viewers group for retrieving data? Is there any missing piece over here?

Hi there, I just want to know if it's possible to have multiple authentication methods (ie SAML and OpenID Connect) for the same cloud instance? At the moment, 98% of our users use SAML authentication with just one Identity Provider and the remaining 2% use Appian native connection. In the near future, we will setup a second SAML IdP for a future app we are going to build as these users don't use the existing IdP we do. For yet another future app, the potential users will be authenticated via OpenID Connect. Is this possible in our Cloud instance to have both authentication methods, SAML and OpenID Connect? We will make sure that no user will be in multiple authentication groups. Thanks.

Hi there, Can anyone let me know the procedure how to get the access to the Appian platform? I'm new to the Appian platform. I tried in my community edition site to get the access but I got the message as "Unfortunately we are unable to provide you with an environment at this time". So, can one help me out?

There is a requirement that we have a means for non-appian users to create new accounts in the application I am working on. Since Appian does not appear to have any built in means of allowing this, the current workaround is to make a web API that connects to an external site and kicks off a process model which can make new users. This kind of makes us nervous (particularly since there is no way to delete unnecessary users in Appian), so we added an admin approval step before the actual user creation stage, but we're still a little nervous about potential DDoS attacks and the like. Is there an in-Appian method to limit how often an API gets accessed? And if not, is there some other best practice to prevent attacks on Appian APIs? 

I have a question about system groups.This is an issue within the environment managed by the organization.I want to add the interface I created to the design library, but I don't have permission. When I looked into the documentation, I found out that it needs to be added to the "Design Library Editor Group". When I selected a group object from the list of objects for the entire environment, the corresponding group did not exist. I tried adding a group object within the application I want to use, but no permissions are attached. Which steps should I review? Hello Team, I received a health report indicating a risk related to the extensive use of SAIL contexts in record views, related actions, and reports during the period from December 1, 2019, to January 15, 2020. This issue is present in an interface that originates from a process model. Within this interface, all code appears to be handled by a load function. I'm uncertain about what changes need to be made to address this issue. Additionally, could you please clarify the significance of the mentioned date range (2019-12-01 - 2020-01-15)?

We have a request to keep a task open for longer period of time say 6month - 1 year , what are the best practices we need to follow for this case , suppose subprocess run with MNI and creates 100+ task and each should be alive for more than  6 months to one year , please advise what are the best practices we can follow ? 

Hi all, we're looking to deploy our application of about 3,000+ objects to a new environment for the first time. We've split the application into 3 smaller applications, one which contains the DB objects, one which contains the groups, and the last one which contains the rest.  I'm going to look at deploying the DB changes, then the DB objects, groups, and lastly the rest of the application. My main concern is dealing with timeouts - when we've tried to deploy a lot of objects in the past (using compare and deploy) we've seen an issue where the deployment takes so long that it eventually times out. Is there any way we can split the objects further to deploy them in smaller batches? Any other advice would also be appreciated. Thanks.

We have a requirement to have B2C Authentication to log on to Appian. This initial logon will be without MFA. However depending on the interface they access, we want to enforce MFA for accessing those user interfaces. Is there a way this can be achieved in Appian? Do we have the ability to access the token sent back from Azure B2C to check if MFA was done or not and then redirect them to reauthenticate with MFA?

How can we show a specific message to a specific user in maintenance window in Appian? Explain with the screenshots if possible.

Hi All  I have a requirement user wanted remove some user from entire Env Like Dev Env so i have deactivate the user account and remove from Groups and inactive that from database also Sync record.  and we have one UI where we make search bar filter in the search bar we used pickerfield. I have done all these process that i have explained in the above. and when i go to search bar still i am getting user name that i have already deactivate from appian account remove from groups and inactive from database. Can you tell me how we can fix this issue.

I have a robotic task that gets triggered from the smart service node in Process model. I am providing some details with respect to the bot so that I can get help exactly where we can improve the performance.Robotic task -> The robotic task receives an excel document, downloads it (download doc step), then it has to open the doc, and perform some excel actions(Sort,Find value,Filter etc) that we have configured using excel actions. The catch is that the bot first needs to check which action is it that it needs to perform (so we use if expression true to confirm the action, since this comes from the process model + DB).Now we have robotic sub tasks as well since there are close to 40 actions, therefore we have divided them.Configuration --> Download > Open workbook > Select sheet > Loop in actions > Pick first action > Run if expressions (present in sub bots) to confirm which action it is > Apply action > Will check other action until comes out of loop after e
