In Appian 17.4+, there performance degradation caused by high CPU utilization from the personalization/group engine. The number of "getUser" calls have increased significantly and can be measured from the engine_call_details.csv log.
This was caused by a bug within Appian Parallel Evaluation which caused additional calls to the engine.
Apply the latest Appian Hotfix.
