DRAFT KB-XXXX TIME_SKEW error in application server and engine logs

Symptoms

The application server log contains the following error:

com.appiancorp.kougar.driver.exceptions.Signal: TIME_SKEW@ki=-519788690@ti=-519787588

The db_*.log files for various engines show errors such as:

ERROR .a.s.loader "Transaction received has timestamp marked too far in future (YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS) from current time (YYYY-MM-DD HH-MM-SS), which is 1101 seconds in the future of this server engine and so will be rejected with TIME_SKEW exception.  System administrator must ensure that all servers have the same time (within 900 seconds).
ERROR .a.s.loader "The transaction that caused this TIME_SKEW is [.a.p.PROCESS.acceptWorkBulk].  This transaction will not be executed.

Cause

In a distributed installation, the server time between at least two of the servers running a service that comprises a part of the Appian installation has a difference of at least 900 seconds.

Action

Verify the server time on each server running an Appian service. If they are different, they should all be synchronised so that they each report the same time.

Affected Versions

This article applies to all versions of Appian.
