DRAFT KB-XXXX PDFs do not render inline in the Appian Document Viewer Component in Google Chrome

Symptoms

When using the new Document Viewer Component available in Appian 18.3, the Google Chrome web browser does not render PDFs inline, but instead shows an option to only open and download the PDF file.

Cause

The Google Chrome web browser PDF Viewer component is disabled.

Action

Per Google Chrome Help page PDFs don't open automatically in Chrome, enable the Chrome PDF Viewer by doing the following:

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click "More" and then "Settings".
  3. At the bottom, click "Advanced".
  4. Under "Privacy and security," click "Content settings".
  5. Near the bottom, click "PDF documents".
  6. Turn off "Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome".

Now the Google Chrome web browser should render PDF files inline in Appian interfaces using the Document Viewer Component instead of only downloading the PDF files.
