DRAFT KB-XXXX Tomcat start-appserver script does not start tomcat on Windows Environments

Symptoms

Appian services start successfully, but when running the start-appserver.bat script, Tomcat does not start and tomcat-stdOut.log file is not generated.

Tomcat will display no running instances when attempting to run stop-appserver.bat.

Cause

This has been addressed in AN-127905 and will be addressed in the next hotfix.

Action

  1. Run <APPIAN_HOME>\tomcat\apache-tomcat\bin\stop-appserver.bat.
  2. Follow the directions in this documentation to set the JAVA_HOME: <APPIAN_HOME>\java
  3. Run <APPIAN_HOME>\tomcat\apache-tomcat\bin\start-appserver.bat.
  4. Run <APPIAN_HOME>\tomcat\apache-tomcat\bin\startup.bat.
  5. Tomcat will start, but there will not be an auto-generated tomcat-stdOut.log file.
