DRAFT KB-XXXX Windows service dies unexpectedly when running a distributed/single server installation

Symptoms

When attempting to start Appian as a windows service, the service may unexpectedly die while services and service manager show a running status.

This could occur in the following scenarios:

  1. When running a distributed installation of Appian with one server containing all components of Appian and the other server containing only service manager and additional execution and analytics engines.
  2. When running a single server installation of Appian with all components on a single server.

Cause 

This a known issue with how the windows service is determining that the service has stopped. From Service Manager's perspective there are no issues.

This issue has been reported to the Appian Product Team. The reference number for this issue is AN-113199.

Workaround

After the application server, search server and data server are down, stop Appian services from command line.

This article applies to all versions of Appian.
